The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity
If you feel like you're stuck in a rut, we have an opportunity for you! The Artist's Way, a class
based on the best-selling book of the same name by Julia Cameron, is a powerhouse of personal
growth achieved through opening oneself to one's creative gifts. It is fun, it is liberating, and it is
spiritual, says class leader Maggie Bryant.
Don't worry, this is not a studio class. You won't be drawing anything, and you don't need talent.
Instead, you'll do mental exercises to remove the psychological blocks to self-expression,
innovative thinking, and art-making. While the class was designed for blocked musicians,
painters, writers, actors, and others, it is equally good for those who have not yet found their
mode of creative expression. The class will teach you not to judge your original ideas, how to
make room in your life for art to emerge spontaneously, and how to nurture and protect your
creative work until it is ready to be seen by others.
Everyone knows someone who lacks self-esteem, even though he or she is a wonderful person, says
Bryant. Sometimes such a person is not open to seeking psychotherapy. The Artist's Way is a
journey into knowing, trusting, and celebrating each person's unique essence. I think of it as
therapy for people who don't want to go to therapy.
Says Bryant, "When it comes to personal growth, there is no bigger bang for the buck." The
Artist's Way expands self-esteem, halts self-limiting behavior, deepens spirituality and throws
open the gates of creativity. A more satisfying life is the assured result.
